FIT’s campus spans one NYC block and meets fashion from corner to corner.
I decided it was time student street style was showcased on a wider basis. This past week it was Nicolas Galvis Arce’s striped overalls and visor combo that caught my eye. Check it out below.
Name: Nicolas Galvis Arce
Major: Advertising and Marketing Communications
Hometown: Ledgewood, NJ
Q1: How would you describe your personal style?
“I describe my personal style as an experiment of silhouettes. I like to contrast proportions. In the summer I look like a toddler and in the winter like a sexy old man, and I’m totally fine with that.”
Q2: Who is your style role model/style inspiration?
“I don’t think I have style role models but I look back to the 80’s for much of my silhouette inspiration and religiously follow brands with interesting proportions like Delpozo and Sacai.”
Q3: Where are key pieces from your outfit from?
“The Urban Jungle (Overalls), Disney World (Shirt), Sketchers (Shoes), WalMart (Visor)”
Q4: What is your favorite trend at the moment?
“My favorite trend right now I’d say is the decade revival of the 80’s which we’ve seen in Gucci and Louis Vuitton (ready to wear). I love the tracksuits, the oversized muted dresses for womenswear, and the ubiquitous suit jackets.”
Q5: Least favorite trend?
“My least favorite trend is the comeback of minimalism of the late 90’s and early 2000’s. The thin fabrics and the spaghetti strap dresses can stay in the past, Jacquemus. I think it’s too soon to bring them back.“
Q6: What is your favorite fall item you cannot wait to break out?
“I love turtlenecks and love to use them as a second skin to layer on. Fifty degree weather can’t come soon enough.”
Q7: Favorite beauty look?
“I’m not too savvy about ‘beauty looks’ in this era of notorious makeup use, but I love to fill in my brows a bit and cleanly brush them up if I feel like the outfit would be enhanced by it.”
