A year end is the perfect time for reflection, and what better to reflect on than beauty products. The multi-billion dollar beauty industry continues to grow and more products, lines, and brands are launched every year. Below is a list of the top ten beauty launches of 2017.
1. KKW Contour
Kim K ventured into the world of beauty in June of 2017, with the launch of KKW Beauty. The queen of contour started with a line of creme contour and highlight sticks. From there, the brand launched powder contour kits, lip and body glitters, and a line of fragrances that sold out in record time.
2. Fenty Beauty Foundation
We can’t talk about beauty in 2017 without talking about Fenty Beauty. The highly anticipated brand launched in September and has been dropping bomb new releases every couple of weeks. The staple launch in the line was the initial collection of 40 inclusive foundation shades, many of which still cannot stay in stock in Sephora. Other hyped products from the brand include Trophy Wife, a yellow-gold highlighter, and Uncensored, a universally flattering red liquid lipstick.
3. Glossier Body Hero
Glossier has countless cult favorite products, but this year the brand branched out from skincare and makeup into body care and fragrance. The launch of body hero, a duo of a body oil cleanser and body lotion, was huge because of the advertising campaign that showcased women of all body types. Every purchase came with a Body Hero sticker made perfect for a full body mirror selfie. This year Glossier also debuted their first step into the fragrance world with Glossier You, an iconic launch complete with a David Lynch inspired experiential showroom.
4. Kylie Cosmetics Concealers
There never ceases to be buzz around Kylie Cosmetics, but her latest launches, the Silver Series, have been one of the most talked about launches of the year. Part of the series is a collection of 30 concealers, ranging from Pearl to Cocoa. While many people are praising the inclusive shade range, others see it as copying the success of Fenty Beauty. The Silver Series also includes 19 classic lipstick shades, and an extremely controversial $360 brush collection.
5. Marc Jacobs Coconut Bronzer
You can’t watch any beauty Youtuber without hearing them talk about their love for the Marc Jacobs Coconut Bronzer. Although it is limited edition and hard to get your hands on, Marc Jacobs is sure to bring it back eventually because of its wild popularity.
6. Milk Makeup Holographic Highlighting Powder
Milk is most well-known for their best selling holographic stick in Supernova. The blue based holo highlight was one of the first of its kind, but the format was very polarizing because it is an oil based product that doesn’t mix well with face powders. This year Milk released their popular highlight shades in powder form to better suit daily use and interaction with other cosmetics.
7. Dose of Colors Desi X Katy Collab
2017 was a year FULL of beauty collabs. One of the biggest of the year was the Dose of Colors Desi X Katy collection. The collection contains 2 matte liquid lipsticks, 2 traditional lipsticks, a universal gloss, an eyeshadow palette and 2 highlighters. The full collection initially sold out in less than a day, and continues to sell out with every restock.
8. KL Polish X Colourpop
Another big collab of the year is the KL Polish X Colourpop Lips & Tips collection. KL Polish is a relatively new nail polish brand that beauty guru Kathleenlights created. This collection partners with Colourpop to create nail polish shades to match all 6 lip colors that Kathleen created with Colourpop in the past. Aside from this collaboration, KL Polish continues to release new collections every season, and Colourpop continues to release new products on a weekly if not daily basis.
9. Ciate Glitter Flips
Another product made famous by beauty Youtubers this year is Ciate London’s Glitter Flip Liquid Lipstick. This innovative product is a liquid lip that dries matte but when you rub your lips together the matte formula turns into glitter.
10. Kat Von D Saint and Sinner Palette
The Kat Von D Saint and Sinner Palette launched in September and was an instant hit. The beautiful packaging houses 24 eyeshadows ranging from matte neutrals to shimmering brights. This has been a 2017 staple palette for any eyeshadow lover.
