Unapologetic feminist icon, Samantha Jones has caused quite the ruckus amongst Sex and The City fans. The argument on whether or not a third film for the HBO series should take place has been ongoing for the past week. Luckily, director, writer, and producer Ryan Murphy has his own solution for the matter.
“Why don’t they just re-cast Samantha?” he asked during an interview at the New Yorker Festival on Saturday (Oct, 7). “I don’t get it.”
The rumors surrounding the potential for a third film was finally put to rest by Sarah Jessica Parker aka ‘Carrie Bradshaw’ when she recently shared in an interview with Extra that fans won’t be seeing Carrie, Miranda or Charlotte making a return to the big screen.
“It’s over…We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story. It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.”
Murphy who had previously worked with Sarah Jessica Parker went on to express that he could understand the frustration felt. “Look, I would be very devastated if I created something cultural like that and 95% of the team said, ‘Let’s do it,’ but there was a hold on it,” he said during his interview at the New Yorker festival. “I don’t blame Kim Cattrall, though.”
Kim Cattrall has made it crystal clear that she wasn’t interested in filming and was ready to put her Sex and the City days behind her. It seems that although the actress was able to bring Samantha Jones to life for all six seasons of the hit HBO series, it doesn’t mean much to Murphy.
