Outfits of FIT: Roma Kulbida

FIT’s campus spans one NYC block and meets fashion from corner to corner.

I decided it was time student street style was showcased on a wider basis. This past week it was Roma Kulbida’s confident strut that caught my eye. Check out her outfit below.

Name: Roma Kulbida
Major: Fashion Business Management
Hometown: Niskayuna, NY

Q1: How would you describe your personal style?

“My personal style varies a bit; when it comes to clothes, I just buy what makes me feel the most confident. Half of my closet is minimal basics while the other half is a mix of traditional Ukrainian clothes, 70’s inspired pants, and random stuff I’ve thrifted. The one thing they all have in common is that I look good and feel good in them.”

Q2: Who is your style role model/style inspiration?

“My style role model is probably Elaine Welteroth. She’s always rocking whatever she’s wearing and her clothes can range from vibrant and fun to dark and edgy. And she has the cutest gifs of her and her outfits on her Instagram!”

Q3: Where are key pieces from your outfit from?

“The crop top is from Forever 21 (sorry but ya girl is on a budget) and the culottes are from Marshalls. I layered two gold necklaces for this outfit… one I got from H&M and the other I got as a gift.”

Q4/5: What is your favorite trend at the moment? Least favorite trend?

“My favorite trend is actually also my least favorite right now. Embroidered blouses are everywhere and it reminds me of my traditional Ukrainian costume. Some of the pieces I’ve found are basically exact replicas of blouses I’ve gotten from Ukrainian designers. So, it’s my favorite trend because it’s something I’ve grown up wearing and now I get to see other people enjoying and appreciating it. But, it’s my least favorite because Ukrainian designers don’t get representation or appreciation. Fast fashion stores just make knockoffs and sell it as “boho” and it’s pretty disappointing to see.”

Q6: What is your favorite fall item you cannot wait to break out?

“My favorite fall items are my statement stocks! I love doing big sweaters, black leggings, with fun, thick, knee high socks that draw people’s attention to the outfit. I have different colors and patterns, but one of my favorites is this pair that has a scene from The Simpsons drawn on them.”

Q7: What is your favorite beauty look right now?

“I’ve been obsessed with glossy lids and bold, blended out colors for eyes, feathery brows, and nude glossy lips. I used to beat my face like crazy but I like to focus more on skincare now and lighter beauty looks.”
