With fashion in its name, the CDFA Fashion Awards, which recognize the best of American design by the international fashion community, are with zero doubt one of the year’s most fashionable events. And just like that I used the word fashion one too many times in a sentence.
The CDFA Awards are the highest honor in fashion and for this reason, red carpet goers showed up and strutted their stuff with nothing less than memorable style at The Manhattan Center’s Hammerstein Ballroom on June 5. Some, are remembered for their bold but not so award-winning choices, others for contributing to fashion’s finest moments. Let’s take a look at my top five best dressed attendees, with Bella Hadid in first place with an Off-White number.
The color red, especially when very saturated, tends to catch people’s attention, but keeping it isn’t as easy. Amber Valletta in a custom Oscar de la Renta does this pretty effortlessly. The custom crimson red of the dress catches one’s attention. The exaggerated pointed sweetheart neckline keeps it. Does anyone else not want to look away?
Elsa Hosk looks oh-so beautiful in Philosophy. The messy updo successfully contradicts the classic black and white feminine flare of the dress. The red lips are the perfect pop of color.
Those cheekbones, that jawline, that DRESS. Personally, I have never been a big fan of all that sparkles and shines because such pieces are often “too much” or for a lack of words…gaudy. I cringe upon even the sound of it. But every so often I come across a piece that proves me wrong. Lily Aldridge in Jason Wu does just that as she radiates the red carpet in sequin yet, simplicity.
If you know me, you know I LOVE color. Sara Sampaio stepped out in an electric blue J. Mendel cape gown that satisfied my want for more color(and capes?) on the carpet.
And here we have it, folks: Bella Hadid in a bright magenta Off-White head turning blazer mini dress. With it, Hadid sports a blunt haircut with bangs and a light pink bag. Now this is how you get funky… in the most stylish way possible.
