Say Yes to Cannes Best Dressed

By Nicole Plonski

Fashion and Film: not the likeliest of duos, but a power couple for sure.

The Cannes Film Festival, taking place in Cannes, France, is an 11 day long celebration screening films from all genres. This year was the festival’s 70th season, and till this day fashion never fails to make an appearance.

The star-studded event, which began May 17 and wrapped up May 28, did not disappoint fashion fanatics like myself. Here are my top ten looks in no specific order:

Though Sara Sampaio wore a Zuhair Murad gown the same color of the carpet, blending in was not even an option. The low cut number had the perfect amount of sparkle and shimmer. She, and her statement jewels, which rightfully so did not include a necklace, stunned.

Fan Bingbing’s style choices are never short of bold, even when the colors themselves are toned down. The dark red lip and elegant jewels pair perfectly with the flowing light blue Elie Saab gown and Bingbing’s fair skin to give that pop factor.

Young but wise when it comes to killing the fashion game event after event, Kendall Jenner does not do different in this Giambattista Valli minidress. Even the wind, which could have easily ruined the perfect red carpet moment for the model, seemed to be under her control. Jenner sure knows how to make an entrance, and keep it.

And in this moment nothing could stop Adriana Lima from conquering the world. That is all.

Spunky, funky, yet…elegant? Sara Sampaio somehow manages to combine all three in one look in a dazzling Armani Privé jumpsuit. Though not seen in this photo, the jumpsuit, despite being more on the modest side in the front, had an open back revealing the perfect amount of Sampaio’s bronzed skin.

Is it a romper, a jumpsuit, a dress? Regardless, Maria Borges looks fiercer than fierce in Balmain. The sheer detailing and feathered bottom plays so well together. And let’s not forget the shoulder pads…purposely visible. This is an undoubtedly beautiful and unconventional design that fits Borges like a glove, and for that reason it makes my list.

Another look on my list of best dressed that strays from traditional is Elsa Muse in a Maison Alma design. The coat, resembling the patterns of ocean life or coral, could have went terribly wrong but it definitely went right. We definitely don’t need to throw this look back with the sharks.

The moment I lay eyes on this look, I knew, Bella Hadid could do it all. From street style to Cannes Film Festival dress code, I see absolutely zero fashion flaws. This is simplicity with a BANG. This is Bella Hadid in Alexandre Vauthier.

The material, the slit, the color(almost), the statement necklace…GASP. Emily Ratajkowski’s stylish appearance resembles Bella Hadid’s Cannes Day 1 look, or is it that Hadid resembles Ratajkowski? Is there a difference? Whatever the answer may be, all I know is that I feel equally passionate about both looks. We are all looking at Cannes perfection.

Well, I don’t think Emily Ratajkowski was twinning with anyone on day two when she stepped up and stepped out in this lace, off the shoulder, cut out, taffeta train black cat suit. It is overwhelmingly good. You did it girl. All eyes on you.
