Nordstrom has officially opened their first Manhattan location, and – surprise! – it’s a men’s store. Come the fall of 2019, it will be across the street from the Nordstrom women’s store. But for now, it stands alone. Currently, New York makes up Nordstrom’s largest online market, so it will be interesting to see how this impacts their ratio of sales.
This new store offers online order pick up 24 hours a day. Customers also have the option to pay a $20 fee and have their purchase delivered right to their door the same day as purchase. Upstairs, customers will find a bar. But if that’s too inconvenient, employees will bring customers their cocktails while they browse the store.
This Nordstrom also allows customers to make express returns by scanning their receipt at a kiosk, instead of waiting in line. There’s a grooming area with massages and shaves. There’s even a Levi’s Tailor shop that encourages customers to have wording embroidered on their newly purchased denim.
As brick and mortar stores continue to struggle on a national level, one can only wonder if this is what department stores of the future must look like in order to survive.
