MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet Review

By Yerellys Michel

This year the MTV Movie awards was hosted by Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson at the Warner Bros. studio in California, which took place on April 9. Not only were Hart and Johnson the perfect duo to host an event such as this one, but by also bringing laughter and tears to the audience’s eyes with their comedic and bizarre scripts. Viewers tune into the iconic award show to see the winners, but more importantly, red carpet fashion. Balmain, Versace, Givenchy, Miu Miu, Christian Siriano and so much more made the strut into a memorable night.

One of the themes for the night seemed to be a dark gothic sheer, sparkly ensemble. Actress Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Jessica Chastain and Lizzy Caplan, and models Cara Delevingne, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid worked it. Hadid looked stunning when she gushed about current boyfriend Zayn Malik and how he is naturally hot. Jenner and Delevingne looked amazing in Balmain, and took the award in the dark and mysterious category, and Jenner for the best strappy shoe.

Blue is the New Black

Many of the celebs rocked all different shades of blue on the red carpet. These are a handful of actors that rocked it the right way. Actress Holland Roden from Teen Wolf looked amazing in this royal blue jumpsuit. While she dressed up, the guys decided to go in a more casual route, except for Adam Devine from Pitch Perfect. Chris Pratt is killing it in his laid back leather and denim effortless ensemble.

Quirky Face

Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones, nominated for best kiss, looked adorable in a white-sequined Miu Miu sheath with an allover face pattern.

Blushing Nudes

I know a lot of people weren’t feeling these two looks from Kat Graham and Halsey. However, these two outfits are a perfect reflection of their personal style and aesthetic.

The Inbetweeners

There isn’t much to say. They all look the part and put together, but there always has to be a middle class, and in that class there is always that reign supreme. I give that award to Miles Teller because he looks put together, but still has a laid back approach. Following is Renee Bargh in all white and then Nargis Fakhri. Lastly, I leave Hadid and Vanessa Marano to duke it out for themselves. I’m so disappointed that Hadid didn’t kill/murder this award show like she usually does. She should have followed in Delevigne and Jenner’s footsteps on what to wear.

Rap Game

80s hip-hop duo Salt-N-Pepa, who awarded Ryan Reynolds for Best Comedic Performance with a rendition of their hit “Shoop,” Pepa was wearing Balmain. Olivier Rousteing  always has his thumb on the latest trends, but Pepa did look amazing next to Salt. Pepa’s daughter should have taken notes from her mother when it came to dressing for the MTV Movie Awards

Quirky Dorky Faces

Everyone needs a prankster. It’s not fun without them. Baddie Winkle seemed to forget that she was going to the MTV Movie Awards and dressed as if she was going to a crazy disco party with her girls. Tyler Posey seems to be spending too much time with Miley Cyrus and her onesies sleepover parties, and  Mike Posner is pulling a Shia Labeouf..

Time Travel

Let’s take a step back to the 80s where Andrea Whitt and Stef Dawson went shopping. They probably went into a vintage shop looking for some cool statement pieces and came out with these two throwbacks. Their outfits aren’t bad, but the wrong attire choices for the MTV Movie Night.

From Pavement to Carpet

I don’t think that Zac Efron and girlfriend Sami Miro look bad. They look the best out of this category and works with Efron’s new aesthetic and Instagram famous girlfriend image. I would actually wear Efron’s denim jacket on a daily basis, but not to an event where celebrities are dressing up and looking the part. If you are invited to the MTV Movie awards and have nothing to wear, it’s fine to go in a casual,  everyday attire.

Pitch Perfect Part Two

The Pitch Perfect Cast gets an award for best ensemble, and fans can’t wait for the third movie to be released. There were a good range of colors, none of the cast members clashed, and instead, complemented one another.

Finally Compton took what was rightfully theirs. For the most part, the entire crew took a more relaxed approach. Neil Brown Jr. was an exception in a navy blue ensemble, and Corey Hawkins, in all white, wore suits for the cast’s special night.

Generations

1 (2)

Will Smith has been in the industry the longest to bring laughter and tears to our eyes and soul. He is a force to be reckoned with, either within the music industry, or as an actor. No matter what new adventure Smith brings to the table, people fall in love with it. He has passed down his free spirit and talent down to his kids, which will continue to bless generations in the future. Even though Smith wasn’t seen on the red carpet, he did look put together and classic in a casual, dark tan suede jacket with a white t-shirt.

The Oh No’s

I’m not completely sure what event these four celebs were going to, but it wasn’t the MTV Movie Awards.  All of their outfits are wrong, well at least for their body types. Egypt Criss, Farrah Abraham, Jenelle Evans and Jillian Rose Reed seemed to have received an  invite to the wrong party. They seem to be overdressed which makes them stand out in a wrong way. Being more minimalistic would have been the better
