The iconic Italian fashion house, Miu Miu, by Miuccia Prada, has released their new “Icons” campaign. Miu Miu describes an icon as someone who is an example of excellence, someone who represents something. On their website, there is a compelling, mystical definition of what the Miu Miu Icons symbolize, “Miu Miu’s icons are women: myriad women, a multi-faceted multitude who, through their personae, reflect the ever-shifting idea of and ideals of fashion. Miu Miu women are plural: they are a group, a community unto themselves. Their unifying trait is their absolute individuality. Drawn from the universes of cinema, fashion and music, these Miu Miu women are diverse role-models, icons for women of all ages.”
To put it simply, Miu Miu icons are a group of women who change with fashion. They are always representing the current styles, but doing so with a stunning sense of individualism. In the campaign, the icons are wearing Miu Miu’s Pre-Spring 2021 collection. The central themes of the collection are femininity and the ability of women to shapeshift through fashion. These themes perfectly reflect each individual woman in the group of icons. Some of them are previous faces of Miu Miu, while others are fresh faces. Let’s reintroduce, and newly introduce the Miu Miu icons.
Kim Bassinger has been in the talent industry for a while now, as an actress, model, and singer. She is famous for her classic Hollywood look that made her a sex symbol of the 80s and 90s. She starred in Never Say Never Again and L.A. Confidential. At 52, Kim made her first appearance in a sultry Miu Miu campaign in 2006. In 2020, she is still a Miu Miu muse at age 66. Kim resembles sexiness and beauty at any age, perfectly embodying the role of a Miu Miu icon, as she evolves with time but forever embodies style and grace.
Chloë Sevigny is 45 years old, making her one of Miu Miu’s older icons as well. She is an actress, designer, and model, most for her willingness to take on complicated, controversial roles, and her iconic fashion style. Possessing these traits, it is no secret Chloë makes a great fit for a Miu Miu campaign. She never seems to miss in fashion, and has been sporting Miu Miu for years. She’s chic, classic, and always making a statement. Just like Kim, Chloë’s style is everchanging through time, but she stays stylish, consistently pulling looks from the red carpet to her average everyday life.
Du Juan is a Chinese model and actress who encapsulates effortless beauty. Miu Miu was spot on when selecting her as an icon. Her face has appeared on Vogue China an abundance of times and she is the first, and currently only, East Asian to be featured on the cover of Vogue Paris. A former ballet dancer, Du Juan is striking, yet elegant in the way she moves down the runway. Du Juan is a longtime model for Miu Miu, making her an obvious choice for the icons campaign.
A younger face amongst the other icons, the amazing 18 year old actress Raffey Cassidy. You might recognize her as young Snow White from Snow White and the Huntsman or from the disturbing horror film, The Killing of the Sacred Deer. Raffey was featured in the 19th Miu Miu Women’s Tales, which is a short, all women directed film series created by Miu Miu. Additionally, she has also walked the runway for Miu Miu previously. Raffey starring in one of the Miu Miu Women’s Tales, and now becoming a Miu Miu icon radiates the perfect ‘girl power’ message.
Actress Storm Reid flawlessly opened Miu Miu’s Fall/Winter 2020 show, owning her runway debut like a pro. Storm is only 17 years old, but has starred in a number of films. Two of her most popular works are 12 Years a Slave and A Wrinkle In Time. For her performance in A Wrinkle of Time, Storm received a nomination for an NAACP Image Award, signifying just how outstanding she is.
