Louis Vuitton recently launched its newest Fall/Winter 2016 campaign film, and the industry everywhere went crazy over it, not only because of the beautiful collection (can we please talk about these red pants and black boots?), but also because one of the campaign stars was Selena Gomez. “Selena’s popularity is fascinating; she’s an icon for her generation, and yet, there is a disarming sincerity and a true presence about her, she’s very direct and grounded,” the brand’s creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière, declared.
Shot by Bruce Weber in Miami, the film locations varied between an airport runway with a boat on the background and a white studio. Ghesquière called Selena and the models chosen for this season’s campaign his heroines, since their outfits, dark lips and attitude represented an image of fierce.
There was also something about the video that made us feel like we were in some sort of trance, especially when the surreal shots of a starry sky would randomly appear in the middle of the story. The soundtrack was a combination of a modern beat with classical music, transforming the entire story into a very intense daydream. There were also shots of Selena and one of the models, Erika Linder, dancing to the different beats of the music.
Overall, the campaign film created a visual dissonance that made us embark into this crazy journey.
