The word “synchronicity” has been buzzing around the spiritual community for quite some time. A synchronicity is defined as, “The simultaneous occurrence of events which appear significantly related but have no discernible causal connection.” Basically, synchronicity is a recurring theme throughout one’s life.
For example, let’s say you have a conversation about Guatemala with a friend, and then the next day you’re out in the real world and you see a billboard for a trip to Guatemala. Then you’re shopping and you pick up a tag that says “Made by artisans in Guatemala.” Let’s say now a week later you’re at your yoga studio and you see a yoga retreat in Guatemala. Now the universe has presented a theme to you three times. This is a synchronicity.
What’s the Significance?
Synchronicities can be about absolutely anything and can mean anything. Think about dreams. Similar to dreams, synchronicities are symbolic and literal ways the universe communicates with you.
Let’s use another example. Say you notice snakes everywhere you go. Snakes represent transformations in many cultures. The shedding of the skin brings in new life. So if snakes are popping up for you, maybe the universe is letting you know some transformation is coming.
The more I notice synchronicities, the more I receive them, and the more significant they seem to my life. The hardest part about synchronicities is not understanding them, but spotting them. I like to think of it as spiritual trend-spotting. As a Fabric Styling major, my brain is trained to spot trends. It’s all about noticing patterns and opening our eyes to what’s right in front of us.
When you start to notice synchronicities, write them down! Starting a synchronicity journal is so powerful and helps us break down the true meanings of the patterns.
Working With Synchronicities Through Tarot
Tarot is a wonderful tool for self reflection because they allow us to quiet our mind and focus on the real themes of our current energy. You don’t have to fully understand tarot to work with it. (If you are interested in learning, you can sign up for my tarot workshop here!) Also, a card a day is the easiest way to start opening yourself up to the messages the universe has for you. Mystic Monday is a wonderful free app that generates a card a day for you. Once you start pulling cards, you will inevitably notice repeats, and it will get you in the groove of noticing patterns.
Synchronicities in the Age of Technology
2020, our phones are listening to every word we say. Private conversations, searches, somehow find their way on our newsfeeds in the form of Instagram ads and Amazon suggested buys. So, how are we supposed to notice spiritually sacred patterns when our computers have hacked our minds?
I don’t really have an answer to that. All I can give is advice from my own experience, which is to trust your intuition, trust yourself. When a synchronicity seems significant, it probably is. Only you can know what messages are truly meant for you. Only you can determine their significance. Even if a synchronicity is digital, it can still resonate.
Opening yourself up to receiving messages is an amazing way to grow both mentally and spiritually. I wish you all the luck and magic in the universe while exploring this.
