Cheap Eats Guide to Valentine’s Day: Brooklyn Edition

Valentine’s Day shouldn’t have to break the bank, and we all know that. Whether you’re celebrating love with friends or a significant other, or even just to treat yo’ self on the special day, check out this list of Blush’s fave affordable date night spots in Brooklyn.

Dinosaur BBQ

While this may not be the most *glam* option, this restaurant has a long-standing “sweethearts special”. Located at both 604 Union St.,
Brooklyn, NY 11215 and 700 W 125th St, Harlem, NY 10027, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que’s sweetheart deal includes a full rack of ribs and four homemade sides for $32.50! They serve massive portions, are equipped with a full bar, and even boast over 20 different beers on tap. This would be a great place to have a more casual night out at a great price.

Extra Fancy

This one’s for you seafood lovers. Come crack into an “Extra Fancy Famous Crab Boil” made for two! For $42, the deal includes 1.5 pounds of snow crab, old bay white wine sauce, butter, cornbread, and french fries. The menu includes other great small plates to share and a raw bar for light bites. The drink menu is extensive. It houses everything from Brooklyn Lager to draft aperol spritzes. They also have a great happy hour menu to check out Monday-Friday from  5-6pm and Sunday from 12-3. Swing by Extra Fancy (located at: 302 Metropolitan Avenue Brooklyn, Ny 11221)

High Lúa Vietnamese Kitchen

Located at 182 S 2nd St, Brooklyn, NY 11211, this is one of my roommate’s favorite stops in Williamsburg. The herbs in Vietnamese food always makes everything taste so fresh. The whole menu is under $20 per entree and the portions are generous. Honorable mentions include but are by no means limited to:

bánh tráng nướng: $12 Grilled pieces of rice paper topped with butter, ground pork, egg, tiny shrimp chips, and scallion.

phở bò: $16 A clear, beef broth noodle soup. Served with top sirloin steak, brisket, onions, and scallion. Bean sprouts, basil, lime, and jalapeño are served on the side.

thịt kho trứng cút: $18 Slowly cooked pork belly combined with quail eggs. Serve with bean sprout pickles on the side.

This restaurant is also equipped with a full bar, but has other fun offerings like a full tea menu, lemonade with basil seeds, fresh coconut water, lychee iced tea, and Vietnamese coffee.

If you’re looking for a classic Valentine’s day vibe, Saraghina is the way to go. Their menu offers a wide variety of Italian food with a tapas bar, pizzeria, and bakery. Located at 435 Halsey Street, Brooklyn, NY 11233, with live music playing across the street from 9:00-11:30 PM at Bar Lunatico (for a suggested $10 cover charge), this would make for a great romantic date night out. Unfortunately they only accept reservations for six or more. Grab a glass of wine, espresso shot, or sip of Italian liquor at their bar while you wait for your table.

Nana Ramen

This cash-only establishment has some of the best ramen I’ve had in Brooklyn. The noodles are fresh and cooked through to the perfect al dente texture. Their drink menu includes Japanese beers, sakes, and wine. The takoyaki and black tonkotsu ramen are musts!! Nothing on their menu is more than $20 and there are plenty of ways to customize your bowl of ramen for anyone restricted by specific diets. It is a very small space, so be prepared for an intimate evening. There are other great bars around the location at 330 Malcolm X Blvd, Brooklyn, NY 11233, take a peak on Google Maps if you’re not already familiar with the area. P.S. Don’t worry if you forget cash, there’s an ATM in the back.
