Bye Bye Bold Brows

By Ryann Casey

From Katy Perry to Kim Kardashian, light eyebrows were in full force Monday evening at this year’s Met Gala. A blank brow blends with the rest of the face, pulling other accentuated features forward. Paired with blackened lips, a dramatic smoky eye, or monochromatic golden bronze hues, bare brows broaden a multitude of daring looks. This call to passed runways like Dior, Marc Jacobs, and Givenchy, proves that sparse can be more striking than bold.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry rocked bleached out brows, harmonizing the rest of her bold, dark makeup. Black lips from her new Cover Girl line in the shade “Perry Panther” stuck out, matching her midnight locks that were pulled up in a beehive and blunted bang. Electric blue lashes and matching liner paired with lavender shadow dramatized the eyes.

Unlike Katy Perry, Kim Kardashian’s look was more subtle. Bleached brows, bronze sultry smoky eyes, and a heavy contour made this look more drawn and angular. Her neutral nude pout and slicked back wet hair completed the look Kim K defined as a “sexy robot.”

Sienna Miller’s lightened brows were in tune with her hair color. The rest of her makeup was bronzed with thin black liner to delicately emphasize her eyes, and a pink-nude natural lip. The tousled up-do and muted makeup made for an ethereal golden goddess look.

Lily Aldridge

Opting for metallic gold glitter, Lily Aldridge took this lightened brow look to another level. The textured, painted brows matched her sparkling gilded gown. An iridescent gold highlight glistened in the inner corners of her eyes and a little at the tip of her cupids bow. Warm copper bronzed lips and a sleek up-do with a deep side part and gold earrings added to the reflective shine that made this look.

Not completely bleached, but sparse unfilled brows was Taylor Swift’s take on the trend. Her white-blonde, shaggy bob and fair complexion worked with the barely-there brows to create a pale blank canvas of a face. With minimal eye makeup, her darkened blackberry pout contrasted the light hair with a carefree grungy bad girl vibe.
