7 Days of Summer Suburb OOTD’s

Exactly 813 miles away from Manhattan, in a sleepy suburb outside of Chicago, I’ve spent the past month and a half making notches on my bedside wall like a prisoner. That’s right… I… am home for the summer. Though I am not any sort of prisoner, this summer has been more challenging than I ever thought possible. Eight months out of the year, I live in a city that I am lucky enough to call my “happy place.” When I’m sad, I picture myself at my favorite fountain, at the corner of 6th and Bleecker. When I’m happy, I remember the joy of getting a great grade on a project, and going to get dollar pizza with my best friends. Unfortunately, the suburbs aren’t magical enough to make pizza seem like a big deal. To cope, I make the notches, but instead of stubby scratches by my bedside, they take in the form of OOTD’s.

I’ve been dressing like going to fashion week is my only purpose in life. I’ve been dressing like I live in SoHo and drink matchas with bloggers that I must befriend. I’ve been dressing like I’m living my best life even though I’m living 813 miles away from it. I’m a few outfits away from starting a GoFundMe titled “Get Grace Back to New York.” Below are a handful of my notches. Whether you live in the city, a train ride away, or hundreds of miles, I hope that you can get to your happy place soon, too. And if you can’t, dress like you’re already there.

Day 1: An oversized button-down men’s shirt paired with a thrifted sleeveless mini-dress. Rabbit socks, Guess purse, and Stan Smiths to accessorize

Day 2: a vintage dress that I bought two years ago and haven’t wore until now. This has no relevance to anything but like, am I crazy? Tassel belt and necklace are handmade, earrings are from SereneGarlands on Etsy. Same purse and shoes.

Day 3: Today is more casual. I pair a simple brown tee with some cat-print shorts from H&M. Shoes are Dr. Scholls (can you believe??). Pom-pom necklace is from Madewell – the other one was a gift!

Day 4: Today marks another day of an oversized button down. It’s a beach day, so I wear it with a pair of vintage cut-offs from Belmont Army Vintage and a swimsuit from the brand Cupshe on Amazon. Hat is brought to you by the FIT bookstore, of course.

Day 5: Vintage pants from White Stag, and a Magritte screen-printed shirt with a whole bunch of similar ones on Amazon. I accessorize with another handmade necklace, a tape-measure as a belt, and a Dunkin iced coffee. Shoutout to my boyfriend, who took these and accidentally cut off my feet – I’m wearing red slides from the brand Bamboo.

Day 6: You never knew Bermuda shorts were a going-out look until now. These were thrifted and the blouse is from the brand Eyeshadow (never heard of it, don’t look at me, it’s my mom’s). They are adorned with foxes! Jean jacket is thrifted from Buffalo Exchange, topped with a souvenir pin from Paris.

Day 7: This day was the most relaxed out of all. Sometimes it’s nice to sit back, wear your favorite comfy clothes and take a minute to appreciate where you are. I’m wearing a thrifted tee, my favorite pair of jeans from Pacsun, a handmade belt and shoes from Nine West.
