Kick-Start the School Year with Vans x KARL LAGERFELD Capsule Collection

The athleisure trend has swept the fashion world by storm over the past few years, and it shows no indication of dissipating anytime soon. Activewear, ladies and gentlemen, is here to stay.

Beginning with the oh-so-popular Adidas Stan Smiths and Superstar shoes alike, fashion girls couldn’t get enough of footwear that falls in both categories of fashion and functionality. Soon enough, street style stars were sporting old school sneakers including, but not limited to, Nike Cortez, Puma Suedes, Converse Chuck Taylors, and most notably Vans Old Skool sneakers. Fashion’s ongoing fascination with streetwear has left shoppers scrambling to hop on board every “new” retro sneaker trend.

Vans’ countless luxe collaborations with Opening Ceremony and various other fashion powerhouses (Marc Jacobs, Madewell, etc.), should have indicated yet another high-fashion dynamic duo on the rise. This is where the head designer and creative director of the renowned fashion house Chanel, and Italian fashion house Fendi, steps in; none other than Karl Lagerfeld, with his own Eponymous fashion label. Lagerfeld has joined Vans for a Fall 2017 collaboration.

The exclusive capsule collection, Vans x KARL LAGERFELD, features 12 styles and will launch worldwide on September 7th at KARL LAGERFELD boutiques,, and Modern renditions of the best selling styles, the Checkerboard Slip-Ons, Sk8-Hi, and Old Skool, are featured in the new collection. These timeless classics take on a Parisian twist, with a bold two-toned color palette of black and white. The durable canvas and suede of the originals is swapped for luxe leather with K-quilted stitching, solid black leather, bouclé fabric, or a remastered Vans x KARL LAGERFELD cameo print. According to an insider of the American skateboarding shoe brand, “…the collection reinterprets Vans’ renowned classic styles through the lens of the iconic fashion house, for an effortlessly cool result.” In addition to the six interpretations of Vans Classic styles, the capsule collection will also include a t-shirt, sweatshirt, raglan sleeve bomber, cap, and a premium leather backpack.

Angie Dita, Vans’ Senior Footwear Designer, notes that the collection is reminiscent of the unique histories of the respective brands, and pays homage to Karl Lagerfeld’s “fashion DNA.” To much of a fashion-fanatic’s excitement, Dita proclaims the “collaboration is a fusion of Vans’ classic style and Karl Lagerfeld’s iconic design.” Athleisure and high-fashion devotees, rejoice!
