As a college student in NYC, having a cheap food connoisseur is essential. We all want to save money, but why sacrifice a good meal? I’m here to let you know that you’ve got options! From deals to discounts, I’ve got you covered.
Upon entering Taco Bandito, there may be some confusion. It is reminiscent of a Chinese food restaurant due to the large mirror on the wall and look of the menu board. Don’t worry, you’re in the right place for some low-cost Tex-Mex.
Taco Bandito is the kind of place that has a lot of regulars. The low prices are enough to keep a steady stream of customers and for those who get a craving for Tex-Mex around lunchtime (11-4pm), Taco Bandito is the place to try. On the menu, the average price is $8 for the various options, however $6.45 gets you two tortillas, Mexican rice, beans, sour cream, and salsa with a choice of meat. Considering the price, that’s a good meal for when mid-day hunger strikes. You can pick from nachos, tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas, burritos, and more!
The word “taco” is in the name of the restaurant, so I decided to try their specialty. It’s a cheap fast food restaurant, so don’t expect anything super fancy. My taco came wrapped in tinfoil and as I unwrapped my order, I decided to make my own plate pretty. Despite the presentation, my meal was decent. I ordered two hard shell chili tacos and one soft one because I like variety.
Perhaps it was my mistake for not realizing how messy the chili would be. Meat and sauce dripped out of the shell every time I took a bite. Nevertheless, the taco tasted good. No matter where you go, tacos don’t really deviate in taste — this one was just extra saucy. Since it was a “chili” taco it had more of a kick to it…not exactly spicy, but it leaned more on the mild side. The sour cream helped to elevate it. Did I leave feeling satisfied after my meal? Yes. Would I go back? Sure, but I’d explore some of the other options on the menu.
Try for yourself!
I rate my tacos 3/5.
Check back next week for some more cheap eats!
