Cardi B. Becomes The First Solo Female Rapper To Top The Billboard Hot 100 Charts In 19 Years

Sorry Taylor, but look what you made Cardi do.

As of Monday (September 25) Bronx rapper, Cardi B has knocked Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” out of the No.1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts with her summer anthem “Bodak Yellow.”

Her unexpected hip-hop takeover has brought the 24-year-old rapper to become the first female to score an unassisted No.1 hit since Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop ( That Thing)” in 1998. Billboard reports that she follows Lauryn Hill, Lil Kim, Shawnna, and Iggy Azalea to become the now fifth emcee to top the Billboard 100.

In a male-dominated industry, Cardi is making sure to leave her mark in the rap game. She announced at the Made in America festival earlier this month that she’ll be dropping her debut album in October.

The exotic dancer-turned-reality-star-turned-rapper has not only claimed her place in history but has set a new milestone in music for female rappers. It’s safe to say that Cardi is no longer just the “regular, degular, shmegular” girl from the Bronx, she’s now No.1.
