5 Anthems to Set the Tone for 2017

By Amanda DeSilva

With the New Year comes new changes. 2017 is already off to a great start with some new bangers, all the while bringing in previous hits still suitable to listen to. From Kehlani announcing the release date to her long anticipated debut album to Tory Lanez dropping yet another addition into his series of chixtape mixtapes, these were the top 5 songs of January:

Kehlani’s ‘Distraction’ is a 90’s inspired track with an upbeat tempo that’s guaranteed to make you feel good and put you in a good mood. After one listen, you may be asking yourself if you’re willing to let a lover distract you from work.

SZA’s  ‘Drew Barrymore’ is not only inspired by the actress due to her many roles as the “awkward beautiful girl” but made to resonate with all the awkward angsty characters out there, sending a message to embrace yourself.

Tory Lanez, ‘Proud Family’ is guaranteed to take all the 90’s babies on a trip down nostalgia lane. For those who grew up watching Disney Channel (back when it was worth watching), Tory Lanez samples the proud family theme song and adds his own twist to it; slowing down the tempo and making it into well executed r&b song.

Big Sean’s ‘Moves’ is an upbeat rapid fire display of Sean’s unique style and delivery. The hook of the song should serve as a daily reminder for you to make major moves throughout the new year.

Migos, ‘What the Price’ is a melodic masterpiece. Opening and closing with a guitar solo that emulates the sound of Jimi Hendrix, the entire song showcases the unique sound capable by the Migos.
